Hi all,

Just a quick question to ask everyone ~ just something I am concerned about with my online store.

In your opinion, does it put buyers off if they have to register with your site before they can purchase?

My initial reply would be yes but I've read numerous reports that it makes no difference and in reality you still need to enter the same information. Maybe you could combine the registration process with the purchase process?

Regardless, it's quite helpful to signpost what stage of the checkout process they're (i.e. stage 1 of 3) and let them know what's to come. My supplies website now has a guest checkout facility and I'd say about 20% of purchasers use it.

Yes, I agree with making registration part of the payment process. People expect to enter their details at the checkout stage anyway so if you can add a 'sign up to our newsletter' or 'sign for email notification of our latest offers' etc option to the checkout process, it will allow you to use the info for marketing purposes etc.

I would even say this adds a sense of security (at least in my opinion). As long as it doesn't take too much time, we're not filling applications for a visa (http://www.green-card.com/visa)I don't mind registering and I even find it better if I plan to order again so that I don't have to give all my datas once more.

Thanks all for this. I am upgrading my website soon and part of that upgrade includes that a customer can choose whether to register or not when they want to pay for their items, also the checkout steps will be reduced from four to two, so not as long for the customer.

Other people with the same eccommerce solution as me (cubecart) have said they they saw sales increase by 30% when they used the option to register or not, so fingers crossed there

Well, I had a guest book page on my site for a while but got no comments at all. Then I changed it to a page with no sign-up necessary and now I get lots of nice feedback.

Yes I have had more sales and people staying on my site for longer since the upgrade too. My Guestbook now filling up nicely lol
