What paint?

Postby Double » 04 Dec 2009, 14:55

I'm hoping to paint my small bathroom after Christmas and was wondering if I really do need to get the special bathroom paint or would ordinary paint work? I'm thinking of a cool blue scheme

You'd be better off with a bathroom paint. They have an anti mildew substance in them. If you can't find the colour you want in a bathroom paint then you can always get one mixed ata decorators centre.

Do those cost more and do they have all the colours?

And what is ata?

sorry I meant "at a"
They are slightly more expensive, but then you can wipe dirt stains off really easily.

I think if you re read it, it was "at a" but the gap got missed! :)

You dont have to use special bathroom and kitchen paint, but it is more durable - to cope with being wiped down etc.. The thing to consider is how big is the room, how is it ventilated, what do you need to paint, and how much wear and tear.

If you have windows that open, and an extractor, you probably dont get much condensation, and if you are painting above tiles, there might be less need to wash or wipe walls.

If it is a smaller room, and the walls are going to get knocked and marked, then the extra cost of the paint is probably worth the investment! - its only a couple of ££'s more to buy anyway! - and a small bathroom wont need much paint.
Q:"did you enjoy yourself?"

thanks for the explanation sparkysdad and angel

Its a small room and I hope it wont get much wear and tear. I didn't know you had to wipe walls down in the bathroom. I have only a few tiles around the sink and bath so it will be mostly paint

My plumber recommended that we use bathroom paint.

That's probably because its more expensive - and since he disappeared with our money, it was even more expensive :(
I'll try anything twice :D!

:( Sorry to hear that, thats mean.

Use bathroom paint otherwise when you get condensation on your walls all the colour runs down. They do have a good range of colours and not too much more expensive, wilkinsons usually have good prices for paint - can't remember what their colour range is like though.
