Suppliers!

Postby sparkysdad » 21 Nov 2009, 19:55

Just a thought,

there's already a couple of "have you tried" and "XXX is really good" comments in the general threads.. How about a section for trusted and recommended suppliers??

It seems to be something that people look up and end up at a craft forum posting.. might help drive traffic to the forum too??

Where other forums wait until someone asks for a suggestion, we could could compile a list of our best and favorites..

Mind you, it is open to abuse too I suppose, so perhaps not..?

(Shall I shut up now?)

I agree in one way - there is many 'against's', it would actually take away the hard work required in starting a business for some, so often this is something that could be asked and people could chose whether to give away suppliers that are worked hard to find and taken a chance on even. In fact, if you had made a great piece of jewellery and given way your supply source - what is there left. Good ide, but as you say, would work against folk too.

Yes, I guess it would also encourage just one stop visits from people just wanting to advertise there wares here too- not that I object to links in signatures etc or recommendations for that matter but at the same time I want the people here to give real input and not just advertising their businesses. Hopefully, if this thing gets off the ground, I'll look into proper ads but until then I think we might have to shelve the idea! Good suggestion though G- keep em coming lol!

I didn't mean it in quite that way.. , more generalist than "this is what I make and here's where to get everything" :? and I wasn't suggesting it was compulsory LOL

For example, I used to buy my cardstock from the local craft shop, but when I was doing a friends wedding stationery I ordered a bigger quantity online to save money. The company were excellent - the order was placed at 4pm, and arrived at 9.30 the next morning.. and the price was very low, but the card was a 300gsm card with a really superfine finish... so it's a product I rate, and the service and price was great too. (Ideal Envelopes of Sheffield by the way if anyone needs envelopes or card and paper!)

As It's kind of a generic supply it's not difficult to find, but there are a lot of suppliers.. :D

The private area is open to anyone at the moment- once we start attracting members it will be changed to only allow those with X amount of posts in. I think doing it now might put some people off from joining given that we're so new and have so few members and they may see it as a closed shop and feel excluded!
