withering candles in the heat

Postby ladymuppet » 11 Jul 2010, 21:31

Hi all

Just thought I would give a little advice from my mistake! Went to an outdoor fair and my poor candles melted in the heat I kept them in the shade as much as possible but it has been blistering heat this weekend.

Any advice on how to prevent this would be utterly appreciated

OMG! Did they really melt? That must have been some heat wave lol! I've never heard of candles melting in the sun before although I guess people don't take them outdoors as a rule! Maybe foil would work- deflects the heat but then you wouldn't be able to see the candles properly. Maybe standing them in water would do it too, maybe in some sort of clear acrylic trough (easily put together with a bit of silicone to make it water proof and leak free). You could maybe make a feature with it too by adding some coloured stones and/or rose petals! Other than that, there's not a lot else I can think of. Can't believe all your hard work was wasted Karen, how disheartening!

Hi ya

I read up on it in my candle book when it was too late about keeping them in the shade very difficult they werent in direct sunlight but the ones on the black cloth had melted at the bottom, the larger ones looked like someone had lit them there was like a mushy squidge pool at the top!!!

I will display only a couple next time and leave them in a cool box, maybe thats why i dont see many people selling candles at the outdoor fairs!
