One Thing I am not sure I like on this forum

Postby Just Soaps » 29 Dec 2009, 06:43

is when looking at my stats, it shows the post that has been looked at.

Which means that if I wish to comment on www.xyz.com they will be able to see exactly what I have written about them.

So, I will have to be very careful what I say :smile2:

OK

When looking at my web stats - I can see where my visitors have been referred from - which sites.

On all other forums, it just says - so and so forum - I click on the link and just get to the forum - not the actual post.

With this forum - I can see which post people have actually come through on - click on the link and straight onto my post.

So if I wish to make a comment about another web site - the website owner will be able to see what I have written.

Does that make sense?

Now I get you :) yes that makes sense, that is the thinng I worry about on forums as well though, once you have your company name in your signiture you don't want people to take things you say the wrong way, which is why when I have asked questions before I try not to sound like I'm a school kid sat in my schools IT room

I mean would you buy from someone that bosts about getting a 1st sale or can't even figure out how to link to a facebook account?

PS I'm 30 and do no what I'm doing, honest

Arh I get you...I never knew this as the link in my signature is to my son's Parkour site! I'm not sure if this can be changed, I'll ask Shaun although if you're going to comment about another website, it really is a good idea to put it in one of the private forums which aren't spidered by the search engines and links therefore won't be seen in webmaster tools etc but as I said earlier, I'll give Shaun a shout and ask him about it!

Private forums ain't spidered/accessed by guests - the clue is in the title.

Its not a forum "fault" its how internet browsing mechanics work - when you click on a link to an external website; you are "referred" to a website hence why it appears in web stats; some forums have a script which process the link so that when users click on the referrer link in the webstats it takes them to the homepage of that site - we don't have anything like that.

If you dont want posts to be visible to guests/bots/spiders place them in the private forums; although just so you are aware private forums or not slanderous comments are slanderous comments and under the freedom of information act can be revealed and we (and in turn, you) can be sued for defamation.
