Its not a forum "fault" its how internet browsing mechanics work - when you click on a link to an external website; you are "referred" to a website hence why it appears in web stats; some forums have a script which process the link so that when users click on the referrer link in the webstats it takes them to the homepage of that site - we don't have anything like that.

If you dont want posts to be visible to guests/bots/spiders place them in the private forums; although just so you are aware private forums or not slanderous comments are slanderous comments and under the freedom of information act can be revealed and we (and in turn, you) can be sued for defamation.

Who mentioned anything about about slanderous comments?

Unless the forum is kept private from being spidered, what you write can b found in the search engine results anyway, not just via your stat links. I doubt very much Nickie will make the forums unspiderable (lol is that a word??!!) because she needs this forum to rank all over the search engines, it's almost always how people find a forum - when they were searching for something else and came across it through a post appearing in the results contianing the keywords.

Apart from that, I think people should be careful what they say anyway, even in private. Someone else could always see it and feed it back.

Indeed, but on a forum, they would me libellous as libel (or calumny) is the written form of defamation..

go on, someone call me a "pete" for being a pedant.. then I can sue! :hurray:
Q:"did you enjoy yourself?"
A:"I had to, there wasn't anyone else here to enjoy..."
