Little & Large

Postby bodrighy » 09 Dec 2009, 23:49

I have a son-in-law and grandson (aged 6) who both enjoy cooking together so for Christmas we are making them a set of utensils. Finished these today. Rolling pin and chefs hat to follow.

Small one is 3 1/2" diameter and the large one is 6" .
Rolling pins hopefully finished tomorrow.

What a brilliant gift, I made some aprons and chefs for little ones this year and they all sold, added a tea towel and rolling pin as well. Not as beautiful as your wood bowls though, love them.

They are lovely. I used to bake a lot with my granny when I was little. I'd have loved my own small size items.
Bodrighy, do you have massive stores of wood. You seem to make an awful lot of stuff.

I collect wood from anywhere I can get my hands on, hedge trimmings, pruningss,s old furniture, offcuts from other woodworkers, scrap from the side of the road, Nice thing about turning as opposed to other forms of woodwork, most wood can be used for something.
For things like this, food safe wood is needed like beech and sycamore so occasionally I buy some if I don't have any.

Nice job there Pete. Just curious, did you seal/coat them or are they left natural wood?

Wow, they are lovely!

Shame you are so far away, my neighbour trained as a tree surgeon, as a result we get some stunning logs for our stove!! Too many in fact, we have had to turn down some from him!

Morning Tam.

Thank you,
I have given them a coat of safe oil. I don't do anything else as it just wears off, potentially into the food stuff. I sand them down to 1000 first so that they are ultra smooth
