I think there is a lot to be said for marketing a product party plan style. It builds on the catalogue based approach as it makes it more personal than just dropping a leaflet. People buy from people and we are essentially social beings who like to interact - and lets face it if it is jewlery kits your target are probably ladies and we all love a good excuse to get together, gossip and look a pretty sparkly things. It also has the advantage that people can see the products before they buy them so it can be a great way to get product to market relatively cheaply.
I met someone at a local craft fair who was marketing her own products that way and finding it was working much better for her these days that craft fairs were. I am not sure if she had tried web sales. She was however doing most of her own parties rather than getting others to do it for her, so you would have to factor in the time commitment or giving commission to those who do it for you.
