For sale and swaps?

Postby Just Soaps » 26 Nov 2009, 06:32

Will it be possible to have a for sale and swaps section?
I do know that many other forums do have this - and mods/admin have a disclaimer for if anything goes wrong.

Many of us buy items for projects that don't get used and are just sitting collecting dust.

Yes I agree that would be a good Idea, though I think it should be a paid feature, maybe £5 per post, this way it won't get abused and the money can be used to improve the forum.

Does everyone agree that would be fair?

I was thinking more along the lines of things we have lurking in cupboards - 1/2 doz, jars here, some handmade paper there, type thing, not really wanting to make money out of it myself, just to let it go to good home.

Not really wanting to pay for it at the moment.

Well in that case perhaps have a swap shop section for what you want and a sale section for what I was saying about? As there is no point in paying £5 when you are just trying to help out other members and clear some space while not intending to make money out of it.

How about a kind of "Free-Cycle" Sort of forum?

Maybe only open to established members...and you have to have something to offer (not necessarily to the other person though)..

So person A has a load of candle making stuff - Person B wants that and has some soft furnishings that Person A doesn't need so Person C takes the soft furnishings but offers some Soap Making books...

Would that work??

If people don't want to give things away there could be a small maximum (like nothing more than £30 in value) and recipient pays the carriage?

I do like the idea...but would agree that it wouldn't be good if people joined just to add their wares...

it "might" get kind of complicated if it is more than a 1 2 1 swap.. though it does increase the swapping potential if you don't have a swap item of interest to the other party.. but then it seems to be getting in to the lets system, and that would need someone to co-ordinate who has earned what?

Whatever the system, it will certainly work a lot better when there are more of us to exchange with :)
Q:"did you enjoy yourself?"

Yes - I think the less complicated the better if there were to be one.

Judi, you've just described a PIF thread, (pass it forward)

Say for example i list 5 items that i have, someone chooses one of those items and adds 5 of their own this goes on until the original poster sees something they want - they then claim it and close the current pif. Its been very successful on other forums i have been on, sometimes the pif is just between 2 people, other times it can go on for weeks!

Swaps and a 'second-hand for sale' sounds great!

Ooh! I like the sound of the pass it forward thread. Sounds like loads of fun.

It does sound like a good idea- think I'd have to look into how far a disclaimer would cover me though if anything went wrong and someone didn't receive their end of the bargain so to speak!
