Disposing of soap liquid

Postby soapitup » 08 Jan 2010, 11:52

I was just wanting to know what is the best way to dispose of soap base when washing out the saucepan, when I make soap I usually have a few drops on the worktop and notice they set very fast, now if that happens in the drains and causes blockages I can see this being a major problem.

So is this a concern?, and if so what can / should I be doing?

if it sets fast like that, I would pour the waste in to any containers you cant otherwise recycle (our bin men wont take plastic tubs for example) and dispose of in the bin.. I do the same with any old cooking oil.. rebottle it and put in the bin.
Q:"did you enjoy yourself?"
A:"I had to, there wasn't anyone else here to enjoy..."

It's Soap, Shane....it will wash away and not stay in lumps - put some water in the pan - leave it for a while and the soap will liquify...you can then wash it as normal - if there are any glutinous lumps left scoop them out and chuck 'em in the bin...

If you are talking about unset CP soap, then it is best to have grease traps installed - cost us about £2,500 3 years ago.

Your household/business insurance will not cover you with out them.
