Customers eh! Who'd 'ave 'em????

Postby judivenn » 25 Nov 2009, 06:39

I had such a bizzarre request yesterday I thought I'd share...

I offer personalised labels with my kits - the default is "Handmade By Me" and most people opt for something like "Handmade by Anna xx" or something along those lines...

This was the request yesterday from someone...."WARNiNG: This Soap May Result in the Loss of Skin and Hair, Blindness and Rectal Bleeding!!!" - bearing in mind the labels are about the size of a postage stamp...

And the not so funny request I had from an Ebay buyer.... who bought some bath bombs and wants them boxed and gift -wrapped!!! for £1.50 per bath bomb...I don't think so!!!!

Anyone else had any strange, funny or just downright cheeky customers?

We sell little jute bags with our logo/website printed on.

One lady came to my stall and wanted to buy a bag to put some soaps from Lush in for a present.

Not one to usually miss a sale, I did refuse as I didn't want anyone to think that the soaps were ours.

She was quite stroppy and could not understand why I wouldn't sell her one.

Wow - the others are bad, but the last one is really cheeky! She tells you she's bought soaps from somewhere else and wants one of your bags!! OMG.

I love the thought behind the sticker - but, why on earth would you want the person to think the present you just gave them could do that???

Maybe the buyer didnt like the recipient and intended a gift card that said "here's your gift, now shove it where the sun dont shine"!? LOL
Q:"did you enjoy yourself?"
A:"I had to, there wasn't anyone else here to enjoy..."

As you probably know - we run soap making courses.

One customer was at my stall, telling me that she had goats, she asked me how to make goat's milk soap.
I replied, "why not come on one of our courses"

Her response - "Oh no, I don't want to pay for the information!" - she then started to ask where I got my supplies from! Needless to amnesia struck.

I had someone who bought a few kits from me and a week or so later she started phoning, asking how to make this, that and the other...most of the things she was asking were very similar to my DeliPots products...like she'd say "One of my friends would like a scrub bar, but I tried making it and it was all peculiar" or "I made the body butter, but when I whipped it, it was very hard"....

Eventually I explained to her that some of my recipes had taken months to get right, but that all the information she needed was on the internet....and I suggested that some basic knowledge of products and how they interact with one another and what effect they have within the end product is quite useful...the she exclaimed "but I'm selling them at a party tomorrow!!! - I decided that this might be an opportune moment to give her some information on safety assessments and the EU Cosmetics directives...she's never phoned again...

You'd be amazed how often it happens...the other common one is "If I buy one of your kits, will my soaps and bath bombs be certified to sell?"

My answer is "No, this is impossible because a certificate takes into account variables that I have no control over - like who is making it; where they make it; and what is added to it etc etc"

One woman had been advised by a craft insurer that she could buy a "Pre-certified kit" and that she could then sell the products...she argued with me when I told her this was not the case and that she'd been ill-advised...
