Cold Process Soap Base?

Postby Nickie » 06 Jan 2010, 11:23

I've just been watching this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueedXo2ByMM in which they make a cold process soap base and leave it to cure for 6-8 weeks. She then remelts the soap base according to requirements/order and adds the essential oils and exfoliants to it but doesn't say whether the soap will need to be cured again after it's been remelted and the other ingredients are added? So my question is...can you make this soap base, cure it and then remelt it and add the other ingredients to it and just let it set again or would it need to be cured again?

I personally cannot see the point of doing that - re batching is more trouble/time consuming than it is worth.

As the first batch has saponified, then there would be no need to wait again.

Read that wrong the first time lol! Thought you meant you'd have to wait again but it seems not. Surely this would be good if you were thinking of selling in small quantities, especially when starting off as it could just be melted down again and the required ingredients added to whatever quantites were ordered etc or am I missing the point?
