Chain Maille Jewellery

Postby makeitbig » 04 Dec 2009, 14:22

Has anyone had a go at chain maille jewellery making yet?

I have and its so addictive. I bought some kits on ebay after seeing chain maille for the first time in a bead magazine I bought and knew I had to try it.

I bought about 4 or 5 kits of all different chain maille weaves/patterns, all were great, but the byzantine I had a few problems with. It seems quite a few people get stuck with that pattern and all in the same place too which is reassauring.

Anyway - here is one of the bracelets I completed, I really enjoyed doing it, its very therapeautic and the little ring you get in the kit is a tool for closing jump rings and its a smashing invention - would have paid what I pad for the kit just for the ring tool. It doesn't half save your fingers.

That's lovely Karen! I've watched a few video tutorials on chain maille but never tried it myself...it's like all those other things...I'llget around to it one day. That said, I've been saying that about decorating the hall for the past 9 years so I wouldn't hold your breath that I'll get around to it anytime soon lol!

Thanks Nickie and angel, no, this one isn't heavy but the jump rings are only silver plate. I imagine in a precious metal it would be a nice weight.

Wow, mens would be good. I suppose the double ones would be good for those, there is a pattern where the rings are connected side by side in a sort of cascade effect. Am intrigued about the wedding fairs though, wonder what styles/patterns are * for weddings.

You can get coloured jump rings anodised/metallic colours, pink, red, green, blue, yellow and black, these look striking when used in chain maille also.
