Carved nativity sets!

Postby Nickie » 01 Jan 2010, 15:38

Okay, you may be thinking this is all a little late to be asking about nativity sets but you'd be wrong- it's just a lot early lol!

I've now managed to get rid of all but one of my cleaning jobs and the girl who works for me accidentally knocked a piece of my clients nativity set off her mantle last week. The client is very well to do and although she didn't seem at all bothered about the piece being broken, she's a really nice person and really looks after us (hence why I've kept her on) so I'd like to replace the whole set with something of quality and which will last more or less forever. I'm thinking wood, maybe hand carved so thought I'd ask if anyone does these here. I'd also like one for myself, it's something I've always wanted but never got around to buying or even looking for but it would all depend on cost and I'd much rather give the business to someone here if possible.

I thought that was what you meant. Sadly I don't have the carving skills to do that. I suspect if you get them made by a carver in this country it would cost an arm and a leg. A lot of work there. Still it might be worth keeping your eyes open. May be someone who has one and doesn't want it

Yes, that's a thought...I know they cost a lot but some of the ones I've seen are £400 upwards which is a bit too steep to say the least lol! You should maybe learn to make them Pete, you'd make a fortune!!!!

That is lovely - definitely a family heirloom to pass down.

You could try here they are no where near £400. Also with this stuff there is always a premium for 'Bethlehem' Olive wood, I know I bought some.

And as Pete said, to get them made in this country would cost you an arm and two legs. :(
